Building confidence, especially after one has a “scare” with a horse can take time and effort. Fear is nature’s way of saying “slow down and think about this.” Managing fear and regaining confidence are critical steps in moving forward in one’s horsemanship journey.

Groundwork is a GREAT way to regain and build confidence. By developing solid communication and developing one’s ability to read the horse through the use of focused groundwork exercises the Human will improve their control and confidence.

Lessons and Clinics are also GREAT ways to regain and build confidence. Focused instruction that enriches the bond between the horse and human, as well as providing the toolsb/skills needed to enhance communication and control will also lead to improved confidence.

Remember: Breathe in…breathe out…move on. “All grit and no quit” is a saying that should be your guide.

Come learn more about horses and the human/horse partnership during your visit to Pine Ridge Dude Ranch! Contact us at reservations@pineridgeduderanch.com or call us at (845) 626-7345 to reserve your space and add a Deluxe Private Lesson or Cowboy Horsemanship Clinic to your visit!

DID YOU KNOW…

Farriers are worth their weight in gold! A good farrier can keep horses feeling good and “sound” even when they have heavy work-loads. Here at Pine Ridge Dude Ranch our Master Farrier Neil Baily uses a wide variety of techniques to ensure all the horses are happy and feeling great! Mr. Baily uses “hot shoeing” techniques to help those horses who need very precise/technical horse shoe fittings to stay sound, along with a variety of specialized/custom made horse shoes and the traditional “cold shoeing” methods in a case by case scenario. Here are just a few of the horse show types used by Mr. Bailey here at “The Ridge.”

· Normal shoes: Used by the majority of horses, and is a simple U-shape generally made of steel.
· Rim shoes: Identical in shape to the normal shoe, the rim shoe is also made of steel. Its one difference is the fuller – present only around the nail holes of the regular shoe – is much deeper and extends all the way around the entire shoe. This fuller helps to give the horse a little more grip on slippery surfaces
· Bar shoes: The bar shoe is an important component of remedial shoeing – the art of shoeing horses with foot problems in order to help alleviate the problems. Bar shoes, instead of being U-shaped, are closed. They are generally designed to support the horse’s heel or hoof wall.
